Thousands of people are facing a second night without power, as another spell of bad weather hampers efforts to repair the damage caused by the storms. Engineers from as far as Southampton have been brought north to help restore the supply. In other news: residents across West Lothian are being advised to keep their homes extra secure following a spate of house break-ins in Bathgate, Broxburn and Uphall; the Scottish Government spent just over 42 thousand pounds celebrating the arrival of the pandas Sweetie and Sunshine to Edinburgh Zoo last month; and in sport, the SPL have told Hearts that they must pay any outstanding wages by the 11th of January, or face further disciplinary procedures and possible sanctions imposed on the club. The club confirmed today that the outstanding wages for December have been paid in full. This is an international version of the news that may have been edited for rights reasons.
